Things We Dislike

Here are some pretty terrible products* out there that we will never get for our girls.

Socks with girly shoes on them. The sneaker ones are sort of okayyy, but come on, your 6 month old is not going to be doing pointe with her "ballet shoes"

Speaking of ballet, stupid frilly tutus. Barf. Your baby can't even sit up yet. I'm sure it's lots of fun to clean seedy feces off the tulle.

Stick-on bows. Ummm your white baby is totally BALD. You don't need a bow to tell everyone that it is a girl.

Headgear. Honestly little girls shouldn't be wearing hair accessories until they have an adequate amount of hair to keep off their face. It's ridiculous when the flower is larger than their head.

Baby bikinis. Seriously?? Are toddlers going to get mani/pedis with mom now too? (Please don't answer this question because the answer is probably yes). Our girls will not be allowed to wear bikinis until they are at least 12.

Obnoxious onesies. They're not funny. At all.

Sophie the Giraffe. It's the #1 selling baby product on Amazon but really it's a $22 squeaky dog toy. Everyone has it! I don't get it.

Mompetitors. Thankfully the moms I hang out with are super nice and laid back, but some moms of older kids like to judge you. My child was EBFed for 7 months, was fully potty trained by 11 months, and is fluent in English, Mandarin, and ASL! We only eat organic vegan food and she has never watched even a minute of TV!  She took the SAT's at age 13 and got a 1590!**  Ummm yes my babies drink formula and aren't held for 12 hours a day, but they are alive, chubby, mostly happy, and I am sane.

Pediatricians.  Now I see them as kind of like vets. You take your animal/baby to them for regular checkups, get a weight and the required vaccines, then they tell you to come back in x months.  They don't provide any useful information that Dr. Google hasn't already told you.  They will recite AAP clinical guidelines with their eyes closed and while hopping on one foot that don't really apply to your situation.  Is it bad that the only thing I like about our ped is the variety of lollipop flavors they have?

*Yes I know some of my friends like to put very girly items on their babies and I am not attacking you.  But if you know me you already know my personal opinions on such things :)
**I'm aware that the maximum score of the SAT's is now a lot more than 1600.  I am just poking fun at Pat.  Poke poke!

  1. don't knock Sophie until your girls are teething! she was better than Tylenol, motrin, orajel, etc... seriously, she is magic. and you will pay anything to get the screaming to stop, trust me!
